Here We Go Again!

The CDC is suggesting that HIV testing become a "voluntary but routine" part of regular healthcare check-ups between the ages of 13-84.
According to an NBC news report tonight - some people may not get enough counseling to understand what a positive test result means. Are you kidding me? With the repetitive hysteria that comes from the media regarding AIDS - is there really anyone left in the free world who wouldn't know what a positive HIV test means?
The idiots on NBC suggested that this will take an attitude change because some people haven't come to terms with the idea of having their cholesterol checked. Yes, I agree....people are just HYSTERICAL about the thought of having their cholesterol checked.
Cut the crap CDC & NBC.

Maybe they should be talking about people who don't CARE what a postive HIV test means. No amount of counseling is going to prevent someone from continuing behavior that might infect others if s/he just doesn't care. And, hey...why not bring down a few others while I'm at it?!?

People must be weird about HIV testing, though. When I had emergency surgery and a nurse got stuck with a needle in the process of well, I don't know, helping to SAVE MY LIFE AND MY BABY'S LIFE, I had to sign a paper allowing them to tell her about my HIV status. I understand all the privacy stuff, but I was aghast that someone might refuse to sign such a paper. The doctor handling the matter told me that it happens often enough, which usually suggests the worst to the poor healthcare worker.

Hey, maybe Rosie O'Donnell can get to work on this one, what with her stellar medical knowledge and all.

Bottom line here is - the CDC is assuming that no Americans have regard for promiscuity (which is sometimes the case).

It's appalling to think that a government agency thinks this is necessary.
