Teddy Kennedy on Katrina....He is S.O.S.!!

This isn’t exactly NEW news, but it’s my blog and I’ll rant about whatever I want…

Teddy Kennedy, a man who will go down in history as a democrat who has exhibited blatant disregard for human life, has this to say on his website:

Yesterday, the President and the White House spokesman proclaimed that the Administration would not play the blame game. Well Mr. President, this is not a game. This is not some school yard spat.
It is about life and death. And most important, it’s about getting it right the next time.

We must be about the work of providing continuing relief to our citizens and rebuilding our communities. But we also cannot delay the important task of determining what went so gravely wrong, and
holding accountable those responsible for the tragic failures that Americans have seen so clearly on their televisions and read in their
newspapers.

Then he goes on with a lot of blah, blah, blah – poor people, African Americans, Latinos – blah, blah, blah – middle class people are struggling – blah, blah, blah – we need to give $150 BILLION dollars to rebuild New Orleans – blah, blah, blah

And then he finishes off with this…

That’s the America we stand for – an America where we treat each other with respect – where we address our mistakes and meet
our challenges with honesty and candor and immediate action.

Since Teddy knows so much about being held accountable for tragic failures, addressing his mistakes with honesty and candor and most of all - immediate action...I guess he's an expert on the subject - NOT!

Incidentally, there are some remarkable similarities between Teddy Kennedy and Mayor Nagin:
  • They’re both responsible for drowning people.
  • They both contacted their attorney prior to deciding whether to call for help.
  • They both fled to higher ground to save themselves.
  • They both waited until it was too late and then refused to admit that they had failed those who were counting on them to save their lives.

By the way, Teddy…it took the National Guard less time to get to New Orleans than it took you to call the police at Chappaquiddick. Oh, that’s right….you didn’t actually call the police…they called YOU.

The point to Teddy's comments are toward Dubya and the republicans, where they are trying to strong-arm congress to investigate themselves about the Katrina screwups and not let an independent commission (like 911)investigate to get to the real truth.
Nagin wasn't the only screwup. It is just that Dubya doesn't want the whole truth to get out. Remember Dubya was still on one of his interminable vacations during Katrina and had no clue.
You know what Dubya thinks when asked about roe v. wade? I don't care how they get out of New Orleans.

I know what point Teddy was trying to make - to point a finger at the Federal Government for "not responding soon enough" to something they had no business responding to in the first place. It's not FEMA's responsibility to be a first-responder to natural disasters - it IS, however, the local and state government's responsibility to take what ever measures are necessary to see that their citizens are protected. The only reason why Teddy isn't blaming the local and state government is because they're Democrats. If it were a red state, there would be blood all over the mayor and governor. If the President has to micro-manage every state in the Union's comings and goings, why bother having local officials? Teddy and his obscene comments (coming from him - anything regarding the preservation of human life is obscene) are just another part of the left's civil war against the right. Get a clue.

Maybe you have forgotten about Dubya's failed brainchild, DHS, which most certainly is a Fed first responder. Too bad the Repub's won't even fund it enough to do their mandated job. Heaven help them when the next terrorist attack occurs.

The Department of Homeland Security, like FEMA, is NOT a FIRST responder in natural disasters.

First and foremost - the CITIZENS of New Orleans had the PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY to not depend on anyone else for their well-being, excluding those who are unable to take care of themselves. For those who were UNABLE to evacuate themselves, the local and state officials bear the COMPLETE responsibility of:
    1. Having a PLAN
    2. Not lining their pockets with the federal funding they received to develop a PLAN
    3. Executing their PLAN

None of this happened. The federal government is now having to go in and clean up a mess that never would have happened had the Louisiana governement been on their game.

You libs are all so scared of "big government", yet at the first chance to blame the Bush Administration for something (allbeit something utterly absurd), what you are actually ASKING FOR is big government. If you want to live in a socialist environment - move to Canada and let the government facilitate your welfare state of mind. In this country, the Constitution (what's left of it) was designed to facilitate a democracy - where the President of the United States, his administration and the departments therein have neither the responsibility nor the authority to micro-manage the states in the Union.

You sit up in PA, getting all of your insight from Rush, Sean & Billy O, with really no clue what happened down here.
Up until a month ago I used to run along the two levees on either side of my mother-in-laws house and along the lakefront, before the levees broke. I know what they look like.
It wasn't N.O. or LA officials, for the most part who failed, but congress for the last 50 years who continued to put off COE budget requests to fix and build up the antiquated levee and pump systems to be able to withstand higher than a cat 3 storm. I will grant the recent disclosure, that local officials failed to properly spend money earmarked for a levee repair project right in the spot of one of the breeches, was inexcusable.
I volunteered in a Hattiesburg shelter for two weeks, lived with N.O. evacuees and listened to their stories firsthand. I also know the history of who lives on high ground and who lives on the dried-out swampland in N.O. and about the local/state evacuation failure of those with no means to travel out on their own.
But, the Fed is not clean either. Under Dubya, they were slow to react in the rescue effort but now are quick to help their corporate friends/donors like Halliburton, Blackwater, Fluor, Bechtel and CH2M Hill with fat no-bid contracts, while suspending Davis-Bacon. It is sickening to see Dubya's buddies lift their stock prices up to all time highs on the backs of the Iraqi poor, our military poor and now the poor from N.O.

Those of us "sitting up here in Pennsylvania" are aware of what the state is responsible for and what the federal government is responsible for. If the Louisianna officials weren't so busy lining their own pockets with the money that should have been spent on those levees - we wouldn't be having this conversation. If the President of the U.S. was John Kerry - I suspect we wouldn't be having this conversation either, because irrelevant comments like yours usually come from a person who hates G.W. Bush more than he/she loves America. Believe what you will - but the location I live in - or you - is irrelevant with regard to where the responsibility lies in preparing for and relief efforts during a natural disaster. Of course - if Kerry were president - we would probably be answering to Muslims terrorists instead of a president.

It certainly does make a difference where you live, as you have only the Rush understanding of the issues in N.O., while I am here and living it. You are naive if you think the federal response will be equal in Houston to what it was in N.O. And I see you have no intelligent response to dubya's use of power to line his friend's pockets.
You people are so alike in your venomous hate speech when it comes to terrorism, you are like lock step Jim Jones cultists, with no independent thought process. You attack and suppress any alternative thought as anti-American, believing anyone who does not bow to Dubya must want to live in a dictatorship and should leave the country.
Well, I have a 25-year-old son Soldier fighting in Kuwait right now and very well know what it means to love and fight for American democracy. Can you say the same?
Anyway, the repartee started out interesting, but you have dropped down to the mud level and are boring me, so I will sign off to find someone else with a little more intellect and something worth saying, than you turned out to be.

It's pretty interesting that you would accuse the right of
"venomous hate speech when it comes to terrorism, you are like lock step Jim Jones cultists, with no independent thought process. You attack and suppress any alternative thought as anti-American, believing anyone who does not bow to Dubya must want to live in a dictatorship and should leave the country."
The interesting thing is that the left- as you have so eloquently shown here - has a nasty habit of accusing anyone who opposes them of doing EXACTLY WHAT THEY DO!

As far as President Bush's friends lining their pockets - so much has been said about that and it's all so incredibly ludicrous that I opted not to respond - it's so incredibly stupid that it doesn't warrant a reply.
But speaking of not responding...you have yet to give me any clear reason why you think the federal government is responsible for your basic survival needs???? Particularly when they had done all they could under the law to provide the corrupt politicians down there a leg up BEFORE this all became a reality.

As far as "Rush" goes - personally, I hate Rush. I think he's a pompous windbag and I take offense to anyone who implies that my thought processes are as elementary as his. It's interesting, however, that you would imply that just because I live in a certain part of the country that I listen to him. We DO have choices here in the north east....just like the people in the south had choices prior to this hurricane.

I am genuinely sorry for your and anyone else's loss in New Orleans - and you are absolutely correct in saying that the response will be different in Texas - but only after the "welfare state" response from New Orleans. 10-15-20 years ago, nobody would have dreamed of blaming the President for this disaster because people used to understand that our basic survival needs are not the responsibility of the federal government. The left is forcing our federal government to do things it was not designed to do. Now that the left has bawled, wailed and pointed fingers, they're getting what they want and they don't want it anymore. We'll give the attention they want to the causes they are forcing on the government and the next complaint is that the attention given to the hurricanes is taking attention, funding, manpower away from something else. You're all either on the flip - or on the flop....can't decide which?

I'm sure your son knows what he's fighting for. I've lost people dear to me in this conflict and that has in no way caused my resolve to waver in knowing the difference between right and wrong.

I don't have to live in Iraq to know that what we are doing is right, any more than you do. And I don't have to live in New Orleans to know what the government's responsibility is relative to natural disasters.

If you want big government that takes care of everything for you - I would absolutely love to give it to you - then you couldn't complain about this nonsense...until you changed your mind and started bitching about getting what you want.

Either way - what you are talking about is a Socialist government - NOT a democracy.
